They let him make 11 appearances for the franchise in his very first season, and he proved his worth to the whole world. Ashutosh Sharma put in one of the best performances of his life while representing the Delhi Capitals in their first match of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. This came against the Lucknow Super Giants. LSG put in an incredible performance, with Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran putting on an absolute show on 24th March 2025. Marsh scored 72 runs in 36 balls at a strike rate of 200, while Nicholas Pooran made 75 runs in 30 balls at a strike rate of 250 to help the Lucknow Super Giants set a huge target of 210 for the Delhi Capitals to try and chase down in their very first game.

Delhi Capitals had a horrific start to the chase, and they lost three wickets almost instantly. Jake Fraser-McGurk (one run in two balls), Abishek Porel (0 runs in two balls), and Sameer Rizvi (four runs in four balls) lost their wickets very early, and the Delhi Capitals found themselves having lost three wickets while having scored just seven runs. This led to a decent partnership between Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel, who tried to steady the game a bit for the Delhi Capitals.

While they both lost their wickets, Tristan Stubbs and Vipraj Nigam ended up putting in good performances to help DC stay in the game, scoring 34 runs in 22 balls and 39 runs in 15 balls, respectively. However, the standout player for the Delhi Capitals was Ashutosh Sharma. He ended up staying not out till the end and kept attacking, scoring 66 runs in 31 balls at a strike rate of 212.90 to help the Delhi Capitals chase such a high target down and complete the comeback, helping DC win the game in 19.3 overs.
