After winning the 1974 #AFCON, Zaire (now DR Congo) became the first sub-Saharan country to qualify for a @FIFAWorldCup 🇨🇩
But it didn't go as planned. After a defeat against Scotland, the team fell apart under dubious circumstances. The next games the Leopards lost 0-9 and 0-3. pic.twitter.com/YNIfs31ZiP

DR Congo has won two titles in the Africa Cup of Nations history. They have a 100% record in the finals. The Leopards have reached the tournament finals twice, and they managed to win both times. While DR Congo has won the tournament twice, it has been quite a while since they last won. They won the trophy twice in 1968 and 1974 but have yet to win since.

Algeria is another team that has won the Africa Cup of Nations title twice. They first reached the finals in 1980. However, they were beaten by Nigeria 3-0 in the final. They had to wait a decade for another shot at the Africa Cup of Nations title. In 1990 they managed to exact revenge on Nigeria, beating them 1-0 to clinch their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title. Algeria won their second title in 2019, beating Senegal to become the African champions.

Incidentally, their second trophy came against Ghana as well in 2015. Like the first one, this game ended 0-0 after extra time, and Ivory Coast managed to edge past Ghana on penalties.
Nigeria has won three Africa Cup of Nations titles in its history. Nigeria has finished in the top three fifteen times but has come first just three times. Their first title came in 1980. Nigeria beat Algeria 3-0 in the final to win the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Their second title took fourteen years to come. Nigeria beat Zambia 2-1 in the 1994 finals to clinch their second-ever AFCON title. Nigeria’s third and final title came in 2013. They beat Burkina Faso 1-0 to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title.

They beat the Super Eagles 1-0 to lift their third AFCON title. The Indomitable Lions reached back-to-back finals again as they faced Senegal in the 2002 final. ‼️The curse continues! With Senegal’s elimination, Egypt remains the last side to successfully defend their AFCON title after winning back to back to back titles between 2006 and 2010.
