Aakash Chopra SAID THIS On Indian Spinners At ICC T20 World Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the 15-man squad selected to feature in the upcoming T20 World Cup that kicks off in Australia. Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on the three spinners selected in the squad. The ex-cricketer made a strong claim and called Yuzvendra Chahal as the only genuine wicket-taking option in the Indian team at the ICC event.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra has gone on to call Ravichandran Ashwin and all-rounder Axar Patel as ‘defensive options’. After sharing how the duo offers different variety to the bowling attack, the cricketer turned commentator called Chahal as the only wicket-taking option in T20Is.

“You have picked three spinners – an offspinner, a legspinner, and a left-arm spinner. So you have picked different-different options, but Yuzi Chahal is the only legit wicket-taking option in T20 cricket. The others are defensive options – make no mistake, that is the truth. You can see the numbers for the last 12 months, IPL included for both of them – Axar and Ravichandran Ashwin,” Aakash Chopra said.

The former opener spoke about Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav following their non-selection and shared how they could have been wicket-taking options at the World Cup.  He also speaks how it would be interesting to see how the Indian think tanks approach with the spinner at the ICC event.

“Ravi Bishnoi was a tempting option available to you. You are not thinking about Kuldeep at all, which is slightly disappointing, but he could also have been a wicket-taking option. But you didn’t think about either of them. It will be very interesting whether you will be able to play two out of the three spinners in the XI. Will you be able to play either Axar or Ravi (Ashwin) along with Yuzi Chahal – that’s going to be a big one,” Aakash Chopra added.

India kicks off their ICC T20 World Cup campaign on 23 October in the Super 12 stages of the tournament where they square off against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Rohit Sharma’s side are touted to be amongst the favorites to walk away with the title in Australia.
