Aakash Chopra Reveals Major Issues For Pakistan Ahead of Asia Cup

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has shared his thoughts on Pakistan cricket team ahead of their anticipated Asia Cup 2022 clash. The cricketer turned commentator revealed how he feels that the absence of left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi for the Men in Green will be a “huge blow to Pakistan’s chances,” at the 6-nation tournament.

The 22-year-old Pakistani speedster is ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to a right knee ligament injury. Chopra talked about the pacer’s absence for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup in a video on his official YouTube channel.  He also goes on to share his thoughts on the missing duo of Indian fast bowlers that will not be available for the Asia Cup.

Speaking about the 22-year-old Pakistan based pacer, Aakash Chopra said, “I think it’s a huge blow to Pakistan’s chances. I said the same thing about Bumrah as well. Jasprit Bumrah is not there, Harshal Patel is also not there, apart from him. So, it was a twin blow for us.”

He added, “When I see Arshdeep, Avesh Khan and Bhuvneshwar – the bowling attack looks a little weak. It is a fact; I am not hiding from it. But Pakistan also cannot hide from the fact. It is not that they do not have the bowling. They have a lot of options. Shadab Khan is batting well, but he is not getting those many wickets as a bowler.”

The 44-year-old also went on to speak on other Pakistan bowlers in the likes of Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Shahnawaz Dahani. Aakash Chopra claimed Haris Rauf to be a brilliant fast bowler but stated how he is not the same as Afridi.

The former cricketer also added how the duo of Dahani and Shah could prove to be expensive at times despite being such good bowlers. He said, “Shahnawaz Dahani can be very expensive but has the ability to pick up wickets. Naseem Shah made his ODI debut just now and gave a ‘Man of the Match’ performance. He has the pace but is expensive at times.

“We have seen in the PSL that he (Shah) took four or five wickets in one game, but after that, he got hit in the next few matches. He is mercurial in nature, but accuracy is a problem. Haris Rauf is very good, no doubt, but he is not Shaheen Shah Afridi,” Aakash Chopra added. India and Pakistan are all set to square off in less than a week’s tome at the Asia Cup 2022. The tournaments will be played from 27th August 27 until to 11 September and take place in the UAE.
