When news emerged that KL Rahul would be parting ways with the Lucknow Super Giants and participating in the IPL 2025 mega auction, many predicted that KL Rahul would be one of the most sought-after players in the IPL mega auction. However, it did not turn out to be that way. While the Indian star still managed to get a hefty fee of โน14 crore, it paled in comparison to what he was expected to go for. It was expected that multiple teams would go in harder for the wicket-keeper batsman, who is also a seasoned captain, but Delhi Capitals ended up getting him for a discounted price of โน14 Crore.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a 34-year-old Indian pacer who, at his peak, was one of the best swing bowlers in the world. However, old age has now caught up to him, and he is no longer at the top of his game. It was assumed that teams would prefer to build young sides in this mega auction, putting a question mark on old players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, the importance of experience came through, and despite his advanced age, he was bought for a whopping โน10.75 Crore by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who hope that his quality and experience will be valuable to them for at least a short period of time.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz did not get a lot of chances to impress last year, with Phil Salt becoming one of Kolkata Knight Riderโs most important players. However, he still looked quite good in the two games he played, and while no one expected him to go for a very high price, no one expected him to be sold at the base price either. Kolkata Knight Riders started bidding, putting in a bid of โน2 Crore to try and get Rahmanullah Gurbaz back home. While they must have surely expected some competition, it did not turn out to be that way, and Kolkata Knight Riders were able to get their hands on the talented wicket-keeper batsman for just โน2 Crore.

Yuzvendra Chahal is an exceptional bowler and is regarded as one of the best Indian spinners. However, after his price tag in the 2022 IPL auction, no one expected him to sell for an exuberant amount. He was bought by the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022 for just โน6.5 Crore, and many expected his price to be in a similar range this year. However, six different teams got into a bidding war for him, with Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings all bidding for him. Punjab Kings managed to win this bidding war, signing the talented spinner for a whopping โน18 Crore.

Venkatesh Iyer was the biggest surprise in the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction. While it was expected that Kolkata Knight Riders would be keen to get Venkatesh Iyer back home, no one could have predicted the lengths they would go to achieve this goal. KKR started the bidding, eventually pushing out Lucknow Super Giants at โน7.75 Crore. However, this is when RCB decided to join the fray. The two teams kept going head to head, increasing the price of the player. It eventually took a massive bid of โน23.75 Crore by KKR to knock RCB out of the race and complete the signing. This makes Venkatesh Iyer the third most expensive pick in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
