Ligue 1 is a French professional league for men’s association football clubs. The league was founded in 1930. Olympique Lillois won the first-ever Ligue 1 title, with Cannes coming in as the runner-up. The league title started with the name ‘National’ before switching to ‘Division 1’ after a year of existence.

Nantes was founded on April 21, 1943. Nantes have won the Ligue 1 title eight times. It took the club over two decades to win their first league title. Their first league title came in the 1964-65 season. They also managed to retain the title in the 1965-66 season. This is the only time Nantes have won in back-to-back seasons. Their eighth and final title came in the 2000-01 season.
