Inzamam’s role gains more importance as he is responsible for putting together the team that will compete for Pakistan in the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, which is eagerly awaited and will be held in India between 5th and 19th November 2023. The challenge is to pick a team that is well-rounded and competent enough to demonstrate Pakistan’s cricketing talent on the world platform. With his wealth of knowledge and skills, Inzamam will be leading the way in making choices that will determine Pakistan’s success in this prestigious competition
During a recent interview, Virender Sehwag, a former India cricketer, shared his opinion on the best-ever middle-order batter from Asia, and he ranked Inzamam-ul-Haq at the top. Sehwag praised Inzamam’s approach to cricket during the early 2000s, emphasizing his bold and daring style of play.
Sehwag explained why he favored Inzamam over Sachin Tendulkar, stating that while Tendulkar was undoubtedly exceptional, Inzamam ultimately proved to be the best option among the choices available.
According to Sehwag, Inzamam had an exceptional ability to stay calm and composed in high-pressure situations, particularly when the target run rate was high. Throughout his career, Inzamam played in 120 Test matches, 378 ODI matches, and a single T20I, amassing a total of 8830, 11739, and 11 runs, respectively.
As the chief selector, Inzamam will face various challenges in his new role. Juggling the demands of modern cricket, fostering a competitive team culture, and scouting top talent from across the nation will be among his top priorities.
During his tenure, Inzamam will likely focus on building a strong and versatile Pakistan team that can compete at the highest level and contend for major cricketing events, especially the World Cups.
Inzamam’s initial task will involve selecting a squad for the impending series against Afghanistan. The three-match ODI leg will provide Pakistan with an opportunity to prepare for the 2023 Men’s Asia Cup.
