Shubman Gill Proves Gujarat Titans Don’t Need Hardik Pandya To Win IPL

Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets in the 70th match of the IPL 2023 on Sunday. After winning the toss, Gujarat chose to bowl first, to which RCB responded with a power-packed first inning. Virat Kohli took Gujarat by surprise with his charisma and blasted 101 runs off 61 deliveries without losing his wicket.

He scored his second century in a row, aiding RCB in reaching 197/5 in 20 overs. Gujarat Titans chased down a target of 197 and scored 198 runs in just 19.1 overs. King Kohli and his squad gave it their all, but Gill’s explosive performance outweighed RCB’s impressive score standing, negating all of their hard work.

Despite Hardik Pandya’s poor form, Gill has filled the void by carrying a winning chariot on his shoulder. His unwavering performance on the field, together with Vijay Shankar, established an effective partnership for the team, allowing the Gujarat Titans to acquire some momentum over the course of the game. 

Gill’s ultimate score was 104 runs, while Shankar concluded his innings with a score of 53 runs. He got the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance and stated, “I am in good form; it’s about getting a start and converting it into a big one. It’s all working out for me on the business end of the tournament. You need to keep playing shots in T20 cricket.

The new ball was holding a bit, it got easier to bat on. It was difficult for their spinners to bowl. He (Shankar) was trying to hit too hard, I told him to hold his shape. Once he found the momentum, he can hit long.

Last year, Gujarat won the IPL 2022 season thanks to Rahul Tewatia and David Miller’s great performances and teamwork. This time, the same thing is happening, but this time Gill is at the top of his game.

According to the IPL points table, RCB needed to win this match in order to qualify for the play-offs. However, once again, RCB returned to the pavilion empty-handed.

The Mumbai Indians defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the preceding match of the day, moving the team up to fourth place. Gujarat Titans have confirmed their position in Qualifier 1 against Chennai Super Kings. The thrilling encounter will take place on 23rd May 2023 at 7 PM.
