The decision to not continue with Anil Kumble as teams’ head coach is said to be taken by the team’s management which consists of chief executive officer Satish Menon and co-owners which include the likes of Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, Karan Paul, and Mohit Burman.
Kumble was the fifth coach Punjab Kings had appointed in five seasons. He followed up the likes of Sanjay Bangar, Virender Sehwag, Brad Hodge, and Mike Hesson. It was his third coaching assignment in the Indian Premier League with the former India spinner having worked as a mentor with the likes of Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore after hanging up his boots.

After failing to make the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, Kings decided against renewing Kumble’s contract and replacing him with Bayliss. Kings won 19 matches while losing 23 games in three seasons Under Kumble. It ends up being the second worst win-loss ratio for any team in IPL since 2020.
The former Aussie player was the chief coach at Kolkata Knight Riders when they won the IPL in 2012 and 2014. Bayliss also led Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2020 and 2021 seasons of IPL after helping England win the ICC ODI World Cup in 2019.
