Former Australia captain Allan Border is the latest cricketing icon who has urged Cricket Australia to lift the ban on David Warner. The 35-year old has been one of the best white ball cricketers while also dominating in red ball cricket right now.His form has seen various Australian cricketing icons boost a unanimous voice calling for the upliftment of the captaincy ban on the Aussie star.
David Warner was banned from playing international and domestic cricket for a year in 2018. The sanction was imposed after the sandpaper scandal against South Africa in the Cape Town Test. The southpaw alongside Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft banned from playing for a year. Cricket Australia had also banned Smith from taking a leadership role for two years while Warner was handed a lifetime ban on captaincy in the Australian circuit.
Former Australian captain Allan Border is not the first one to voice the opinion of lifting the captaincy ban on David Warner. Earlier, the Kangaroos red-ball skipper Pat Cummins had echoed the thoughts of uplifting the lifetime captaincy duties ban on the 35-year-old. He had also urged Cricket Australia to contemplate their verdict towards David Warner.
Border goes on to call the verdict as a “harsh penalty” while sharing how the players have already served their punishments. The 66-year-old went on to add how the players who were banned should not be held liable right now. Border was quoted by The West Australian saying, “It was a harsh penalty in the first place… let’s get on with it; they’ve served their time. I know that every other side’s doing exactly what we were caught doing. “

He added, “(If) all the captains put their hands on their hearts and say, ‘I wasn’t doing anything similar, they’d be telling ‘porky pies’ (lies). The bans those boys copped were a bit over the top for the crime, given the knowledge around the cricket fraternity where this has been going on.”
The 66-year-old was also heard claiming that the bowlers should be allowed to scratch the ball with the hand. He adds how the pacers should be allowed to do natural ball tampering, by using their hand as it will help the speedsters induce reverse swing on the ball. Australia’s 1987 World Cup winning captain shared how it will help in leveling the playing field, especially on batting-friendly pitches.
