After a successful trip to England, the Indian cricket team is all set to begin their tour to the West Indies for two white-ball series. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play 3 One Day Internationals’(ODI) before squaring off against the Caribbean outfit in 5 T20Is.
Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian team in the ODI series with major first team stars like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Virat Kohli, rested for the series. This provides some fringe players a great chance to prove their worth to head coach Rahul Dravid during this tournament. Let’s have a look at three Indian batters one should watch out for in the upcoming ODI series.
Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has been struggling to get minutes in the first team in the last few matches. However, the absence of senior batters will see him play almost every game of the upcoming ODI series. This will be a great opportunity for the right-handed batsman to stake a claim and further his position to be one of the regulars while hoping to break in the playing XI.
Iyer had a fantastic outing earlier this year against the West Indies. He recorded 80 runs in a game and will be eager to replicate such a performance once again. So far, Iyer has played in 5 ODI games scoring 134 runs in 4 innings in 2022.
Shikhar Dhawan
The Indian opener will take charge of India in the upcoming series and will be eager to lead from the front in this tournament. The 36-year-old has been one of the best players in the ODI format for India and has gone on to establish himself to be a vital part of India’s plan for the 2023 50 over-World Cup.

The left-hander has scored 220 runs in 7 ODIs in 2022 which includes 2 half centuries. Despite an unimpressive outing in the recently concluded matches against England, Dhawan will be eager to get back to his best against the West Indies.
Suryakumar Yadav
The Mumbai based batter has been one of the most consistent white ball performers for India since making his debut in the last few years. The 31-year-old middle order batsman has cemented his slot in the national team with consistent performances whenever given a chance to play in a career which is interrupted with injuries.
Yadav has featured in over 7 ODIs in 2022 amassing 215 runs from 6 innings smashing 1 half-century while boasting an average around 41.20. He has been in good form off late, scoring a century in the last T20 against England and could end up being the highest run-scorer in upcoming ODI series.
