Harsha Bhogle was left in splits after the Indian commentator learnt about a small group of people eyeing to con some Russian gamblers. These people from Gujarat had attempted to create a fake version of the Indian Premier League while trying to pocket money from foreign individuals.
A report was published in Times of India which shared that some youngsters from Molipur village acted as players in the fake IPL. It also revealed how there were 5 high-definition cameras placed at a local farm with the farm workers acting as cricketers.
The report further added that the group of people kept on switching up jerseys and donned the kits of various IPL teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans. The bogus IPL also saw the organizers using fake background music to make the tournament look real and authentic.
Harsha Bhogle took to social media after learning about the bogus IPL. He shared a picture of the news from his official Twitter account while coming up with a funny caption. The Indian commentator was also intrigued by the news of how a Meerut-based commentator was hired to imitate Harsha Bhogle. He captioned his post saying, “Can’t stop laughing. Must hear this ‘commentator’.”

The competition ran under the name of Indian Premier Cricket League with the matches being broadcasted on YouTube. The tournament started three weeks following the conclusion of the real Indian Premier League and saw the gang invite bets from the Russians via a Telegram group.

Shoeb Davda has been named as the key personnel in the investigation with the Mehsana police deeming him to be the “chief organizer.” Bhavesh Rathod, a police official, has been quoted saying, “Shoeb hired the farm of Ghulam Masih and installed halogen lights there. He readied 21 farm labourers, promising them Rs 400 per match. Next, he hired cameramen and bought t-shirts of IPL teams. Shoeb would take live bets over the Telegram channel. “
“He would instruct Kolu, the umpire, over a walkie-talkie to signal fours and sixes. Kolu communicated the same to the batsman and the bowler. Acting on the instructions, the bowler would deliver a slow ball, enabling the batsman to hit it for a four or a six,” he added.
