India’s spin-bowling all-rounder Krunal Pandya has agreed to sign a deal for the Royal London Cup. He is all set to play in England for the first time this summer and feature for Warwickshire. The 31-year-old is currently enjoying some time away from cricket after the conclusion of Ranji trophy season.
Warwickshire is likely to miss out on a lot of players due to The Hundred. The English domestic competition sees most of England’s best white-ball players play in the Hundred and remain unavailable for the Royal London Cup. It is expected that at least 10 cricketers are likely to miss the tournament due to the Hundred. It has opened up spots for cricketers to join various teams before the next week’s domestic wildcard draft.
Pandya is set to join the likes of Washington Sundar and Cheteshwar Pujara for a stint in the English county circuit. The trio is all set to play in the English domestic 50-over competitions. The involvement of three such prominent Indian players will have a massive boost to the Royal London Cup’s value.

While Pandya will play for Warwickshire, the likes of Sundar (Lancashire) and Pujara (Sussex) will feature for their respective team in the tournament that is scheduled to kick-start 2nd August. Warwickshire are set to feature in at least eight group-stage matches in the upcoming edition of the Royal London Cup competition.
Pandya was quoted saying, “I’m extremely excited to get the opportunity to play county cricket and to join such a historic club like Warwickshire. Edgbaston is a special place to play cricket and I can’t wait to call it my home. I hope I can play my part in a successful 50-over campaign with the club and I am looking forward to meeting my team mates. I would like to extend my gratitude to both Warwickshire County cricket club and the BCCI for this opportunity.”
Paul Farbrace, Warwickshire’s director of cricket, said, “Krunal Pandya is an incredible signing for the club. I’m delighted to welcome him to Edgbaston. Krunal will bring a wealth of international experience to a team that will be desperate to do well. Due to our impressive T20 performances, we will lose players to The Hundred, but that’s always going to happen to successful teams.”
He further added, “We believe this is a fantastic opportunity for our young players to learn from Krunal and I’m sure he will be excited to help them develop their skills too. The opportunity to add a world-renowned all-rounder to an exciting group is fantastic.”
