Xijie Sun leads Red Dragon ME; Sahil Agarwal 3rd in High Roller


The casino floor of the dazzling Okada Manila was occupied with a number of ongoing tournaments. However, the jaw-dropping PokerStars LIVE 2020 Red Dragon Manila Main Event has kept the competitors quite busy for a while now. Yesterday hosted Day 3 of the ME and several players ended their journey. While the Eastern zone is lit with power-packed festivals, the Red Dragon has been attracting several Indian pros.

Out of a massive field of 669 entries, only 34 resumed on Day 3 and eventually, this field was also cut down to the final 9 players. The event guarantee was successfully surpassed creating a record-breaking prize pool of PHP 64,244,070, a slice of which was profited by the top 81 competitors, walking out with a min-cash of PHP 206,000. Yesterday saw the rise of China’s Xijie Sun building up the enormous stack of 6,550,000 which was more than the double of the second in the chip lead Florencio Campomanes who bagged 3,305,000 chips.

Although Sun has a total live earning of $70,712, he was recorded to have kick started his live poker career by a second-place finish in the 2016 WPT National Korea Main Event in Jeju where he also earned his career best $47,109. On the other hand, Campomanes is the winner of the 2019 APPT Manila Main Event also the first player of 2020 to win the Platinum Pass when he won the flip-out at the start of Day 2. The Filipino also finished second in the Super High Roller few days ago. However, the one to give the toughest competition would be Argentina’s Andres Korn who has over $2 million in total live earnings.

Final table chip counts:

  1. Xijie Sun – 6,550,000
  2. Florencio Campomanes – 3,305,000
  3. Zejin Shen – 2,300,000
  4. Yufei Hui – 1,630,000
  5. Andres Korn – 1,565,000
  6. Tetsuro Tomita – 1,435,000
  7. Gerardo Lubas – 1,255,000
  8. Martin Stausholm – 1,225,000
  9. Tao Chen – 810,000

Each player will be aiming for the top prize of PHP 13,815,070 (~INR 1.94 Crore) while all nine finalists are guaranteed a payday of at least PHP 1,221,000.

PHP 200,000 Red Dragon High Roller

The second Red Dragon tournament at the Okada Manila was the High Roller that ran alongside the Main Event. This one-day tournament registered 36 players in total, generating a prize pool of PHP 6,460,200 which was earned by the top 6 places. England’s Daniel Furnival was crowned the eventual champion lifting the trophy along with the incredible prize money of PHP 2,197,200!

The field was packed with some of the best known-players illuminating the floor but the one to take the limelight was Kick Off event champion Sahil Agarwal who also finished 45th for PHP 283,000 (~INR 3.98 Lakhs) in the Main Event. Yesterday the sole Indian contender boosted his poker bankroll by adding PHP 969,000 (~INR 13.63 Lakhs) after finishing in 3rd place.

  3. Sahil Agarwal – PHP 969,000
  4. Andres Korn – PHP 743,000
  5. Lei Yu – PHP 581,000
