WSOP adds more events to its 50th anniversary line-up

The prestigious World Series of Poker (WSOP) is all set to host its flagship poker festival for the 50th time ever. A partial schedule was announced earlier last month, and the series will run between 28th May and 16th July 2019. WSOP will return to the luxurious Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas for the 15th time in succession.

The 50th anniversary of WSOP is touted to be a very special event and a lot of exciting and never-seen-before tournaments are lined-up in the 7-week gala of poker-action. 2019 WSOP will see a special rake-free $500 ‘Golden Event’ called the Big 50 NLHE. The event will guarantee a staggering $5 million in prize pool.

We’re excited to commence our golden event. We expect our opening weekend Big 50 event to be one of the largest in our history, and certainly one of the best value tournaments ever offered,” said Ty Stewart, exec-Director of WSOP.

The WSOP Main Event, the most hyped event in any given year in the poker world, will kick off with three starting flights on 3rd July and will have a buy-in of $10,000 with no re-entry. The starting stack of 50,000 up till now will get an upgrade in 2019’s WSOP ME.

In a new development, the WSOP team has added another 13 events to the line-up. Some of the highlights of the new addition are as follows –

The Mini Main Event

WSOP has added the $1,000 Mini Main Event, which will run for two days just before the start of its elder brother, the $10,000 Main Event, on July 1st and 2nd. The Mini Main Event will also have a 60,000 starting stack and will feature the same blind structure as the Main Event but with 30-minute long levels compared to Main Event’s 120-minute levels.

A revamped Colossus

Colossus, a popular WSOP event, will get an upgrade in 2019. The event will now be a two-flight tournament scheduled on 26th and 27th June. The Colossus will be the cheapest gold-bracelet event with a $400 buy-in. It will be playing with a 40,000 starting stack and blind levels will increase at 40-minute intervals. The Colossus will only allow a single re-entry through-out its runtime. On 28th June, the flight survivors will compete again for a seat at the Final Table which is scheduled for the following day, the 29th.

WSOP Vice-President Jack Effel commented on the development saying, “Things are starting to come together on the rest of the 2019 WSOP playing schedule. Being this is our 50th running, we are doing everything we can to make this year’s iteration bigger, better and more valuable for players.

Super Turbo Bounty

A couple of Super Turbo Bounty (STB) events are also included in the mix. They will be single-day events where gold bracelets will be up for grabs. The $1,000 buy-in STB will award $300 bounty for every elimination and the $1,500 buy-in STB will award $500. The former is scheduled to run on 4th June while the latter will run on 24th June. This is the only opportunity for players to earn a WSOP bracelet in a single day.

The full schedule is still being assembled, but you can look at the schedule created so far on WSOP’s official website.

The 50th anniversary WSOP is expected to cross $200 million in total series prize pool, making it a very high value affair. Las Vegas, this year, will create some landmark moments at this extravagant festival, as in the past.
