WSOP 2024 Rake Was This Whopping Amount, Did The House Win?

Jonathan Tamayo created history and smashed records by winning the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2024 Main Event and shipped a whopping $10 Million. With the series behind us, there’s now talk about the financials that the organizers were staring at all the while, and that raises a question: Just how much did WSOP take in the rake? For the uninitiated, ‘taking the rake’ means a certain fee that the event organizer keeps for themselves after paying out all the expenses.

Try setting up a poker game among friends and you will quickly find out what kind of expenses go into putting one up. There’s the ambiance to be created, the beverages to be arranged, and probably some food, not to mention the poker paraphernalia and props – and we are just talking about a friendly neighborhood game.

You will agree that setting up a world-class poker tournament could be expensive. The bigger the name, the more amenities, the more famous players turn up, and the GTD prize money increases, and so do the expenses.  Let’s break down all the numbers because WSOP 2024 was a smashing event.

  1. The total  entries were 229,559
  2. The total amount that went on the felt was a little shy of $500 Million and about $ 40 Million more than in 2023. The total amount was  $480,764,185.

Now, for the breakdown of WSOP 2024 Rake

$437,440,545 went into prize pools, including $67,020,895 to the first-place prizes,  leaving a grand amount of  $43,323,640 to the WSOP staff and the entry fee, according to Poker News.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2024 was one of the most anticipated events in the poker world, bringing together seasoned professionals and aspiring amateurs from around the globe. Hosted at the prestigious Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, this series offered exciting events and increased prize pools.

Kicking off in late May and running through mid-July, WSOP 2024 featured over 90 bracelet events, including the iconic $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event.  The Main Event attracted a record number of participants, building on the momentum from previous years. Innovations in the tournament structure, such as extended late registration and multiple starting flights, enhanced player experience and accessibility.

New additions to the schedule included a $1,500 Mixed Omaha event and a $5,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold’em, catering to the evolving tastes of modern poker enthusiasts. The prestigious $50,000 Poker Players Championship remains a highlight, showcasing the skills of the world’s best all-around poker players.

In addition to the live events, WSOP 2024 offered a robust online series, allowing players to compete for bracelets from the comfort of their homes. The integration of cutting-edge streaming technology will enable fans worldwide to follow the action in real time, making this year’s WSOP an unmissable spectacle for poker fans.

WSOP is already gearing up for its next mega event, WSOP Paradise, hosted by Atlantis Paradise Island, from 6th to 19th December 2024.  There are indications of that event turning out to be a smasher of records in the world of poker as well.
