WSOP 2020: Hun Wei Lee Wins his First Bracelet for $161K!


Another day giving away gold bracelets on GGPoker and Natural8 as well as WSOP.com. Thursday hosted WSOP Online Event #37: $1,050 Bounty Pot Limit Omaha and Event #23: $500 No-Limit Hold’em Knockout. Australia’s Hun Wei Lee emerged victorious on GGPoker whereas ‘avant9201’ triumphed the field in Event: 23.

The 37th tournament on GGPoker pulled in 971 entries producing $971,000 prize pool. Chris Hunichen burst the money bubble when he eliminated ‘YOUWILLLOSE’ in 135th place. A min-cash of $1,196 belonged to the top 134 players including Thai Ha (100th, $1,196), Farid Jattin (42nd, $1,891), Jeff Kirsch (21st, $2,348) and so on. Other faces in the crowd who returned empty-handed include Alex Foxen, Brandon Adams, George Wolff. Mike Watson.

At the end, it was Hun Wei Lee who rode past the field and took down the event for $161,886 in prize money after knocking out Janne ‘Fructu’ Peltoniemi with two pairs of Aces and seized his first gold bracelet. The champion sits 23rd in Australia’s all-time money list with over $1.71 million in lifetime earnings.

Event #23: $500 No-Limit Hold’em Knockout

Garnering a strong field of 1,452 entries which created a $667,920 prize pool. It took 11 hours for New Jersey’s ‘avant9201’ to emerge triumphant to win the gold bracelet and ship the $93,775. Toya ‘HandyCapper’ McLeod bubbled in 208th place and the remaining players finished in the money including Greg ‘FossilMan’ Raymer (191st – $574), Calvin ‘projector52’ Anderson (129th – $679), Allen ‘Acnyc719’ Chang (84th – $940), Daniel ‘DNegs’ Negreanu (25th – $2,770) and so on.

Heads-up play began with both players fairly even in chips, but ‘avant9201’ managed to pull out to a big lead. ‘avant9201’ with Ah 5h and Epstein with 4h 4d. Flop came 5s 3d Qc but the turn 2s gave Esptein an open-ended straight and 8h on the river completed the tournament right there!
