WSOP 2019: Michael Mizrachi and Stephen Song win bracelets

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the most prestigious brand in global poker and this year, the 50th anniversary celebrations are on in Las Vegas, beginning around a couple of weeks back. So far, over 20 bracelets have been given away and we’re barely one-thirds into the series so far. Plenty of prizes have been given away and it’s still the start. We’re here to talk about two more bracelets that were recently given away…

Event #27: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better

The buy-in to the tournament is pretty affordable but the stud variant isn’t very popular among Indian players, so we didn’t have any participation here. The tournament attracted a field of 460 entries and by the end of it, it was Michael Mizrachi who topped the field and captured another major bankroll addition, to go with his fifth career WSOP bracelet.

It was 2010 that Mizrachi won his first bracelet and nine years later, he bagged his fifth which made him the most successful bracelet-winner of the decade. In this particular tournament, the field and the FT too was dominated by USA players where Mizrachi beat Robert Gray in heads-up to take home the top prize of $142,801.

It seems Mizrachi is kind of superstitious. He pointed to beads around his neck and said, “It’s an amazing accomplishment, but I’m going to give it all to these beads. I didn’t have them on for the whole World Series so far. So, I said I’d look for them, and I found them. I had them on last Series and of course I did great, so in this tournament, I had them on from the start and I ended up winning so I can’t take them off!”

Event #28: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em

Yesterday, this tournament reached the final 6 players and we spoke about some of our Indian players running deep including Aditya Sushant who finished 13th in the NLHE Event. When the tournament continued today, it was clear that Stephen Song would go on to become the winner as he had around half of the chips in play during 6-way play.

Indeed, he went on to bag the top prize of $341,854 and also earn his first WSOP gold bracelet. “It’s surreal. I don’t even know. The money’s insane. WSOP summer is where you can actually make life-changing money. It’s pretty unreal,” said Song after he was declared champion.
