WSOP 2019: Maiden bracelets for Thomas Cazayous, Howard Mash

Event #31: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed

This season of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) has seen a number of first-time winners and here is another one in 24-year old French pro Thomas Cazayous, also known as the ‘Silent Assassin’. Considering his previous best live cash was just $15k, this win of $414,766 was a massive bankroll addition for the player.

He held the chip lead throughout most of the Final Table and eventually got what he deserved – a maiden gold bracelet. Talking about the victory, he said, “If I’m honest, there were good players, but I felt very, very confident. I don’t want to say I think I was the best…but I felt pretty sure what I had to do.” He spoke about players like the past bracelet winners Upeshka De Silva and Angel Guillen.

Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold’em Championship

This is an annual classic at the World Series, one only for the senior players in Las Vegas. A massive turnout of 5,916 entries was recorded in the tournament with the minimum age requirement for being able to play in the event being 50 years. It was Howard Mash who ended victorious and was able to turn a small investment into a mammoth pay-day of $662,594.

This was Mash’s first gold bracelet and he in fact turned 50 just a month ago. Heads-up was a hard-fought contest between Mash and Jean-René Fontaine, both of who were also the chip leaders at the start of the final day. “At one point I was just staying alive barely. I stayed in and stayed in, then got lucky. Any tournament with 5,900 people, you have to get lucky to win,” said Mash after the victory.
