WSOP 2019: Kunal Patni Leads 5 Indians to BIG 50 Day 2C

Day 1C of Event #3: The Big 50 – $500 NLHE recently concluded and as with every other starting flight so far, we are here to report a few more Indians progressing in this major tournament. With a relatively low buy-in, a new WSOP world record was set as around 1,700 entries played the third flight, taking the combined total to 13,700+ entries.

Day 2 flights are also running simultaneously and so far, we’ve had 4 Indians progress to Day 3, two from Day 2A and another two from Day 2B. In Day 1C, we had a total of 5 Indians progressing to 2C – Kunal Patni (404k), Sriharsha Doddapaneni (330k), Prashray Rai (330k), Kartik Ved (247k), and Deepak Bothra (148k). Day 2C will be played on 3rd June.

Leandro Padilla bagged the overnight chip lead with 1,184,000 chips while quite a few big names busted during the day including Daniel Negreanu, Dan Shak, Phil Hellmuth, Maria Ho and others. The Rio Convention Center was packed to capacity as we witnessed a new WSOP record, with one full flight yet to be played.

As for our Indian contingent that progressed to Day 2C, they are all highly accomplished players in the Indian live as well as online circuit. Patni and Doddapaneni are among some of the best in the country while Prashray Rai has become one of the better-known poker entrepreneurs in India, running the UmaPoker website. We had an in-depth conversation with him a few months back, which you can read here.
