Who Are Paawan Bansal’s Top 3 Indian MTT Players?

Hey there, we are back with another article from our most loved and favourite series – Top MTT Players. After talking to pros like Raghav Bansal, Abhishek Goindi, Kunal Patni and Harshad Barve about their favourite multi-table tournament (MTT) players, we got in touch with another well-known name Paawan Bansal to understand his thoughts.

The MTT scene has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years. A massive sea of players have emerged, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and continue to emerge in the scene. With every player coming with their own set of skills, a significant number of players have been able to prove themselves through their consistency and perseverance.

Bansal is himself a living example of the consistent and hard-working players we talk about! In fact, he was chosen as one of the favourites by his pal, poker pro and coach Abhishek Goindi. “Although his volume is less, he has kept up with the ever-evolving game over the years,” Goindi used to describe Bansal.

Who is Paawan Bansal?

Paawan Bansal

Paawan Bansal was introduced to poker by his friends during his first week at Singapore University. He initially started playing small with buy-ins of $2. He then moved higher to $5-$10 stakes with his friends. Interestingly, after watching people win big, he thought that poker was simply luck based. However, with time his perception changed. And there was no looking back for Bansal.

He then started digging deep into the game, by reading and watching videos on YouTube. For over a year, he played on Zynga and tried different moves, and eventually started developing his own techniques and moves. Today he is one of the most renowned players in the Indian poker circuit.

Bansal claimed his first significant cash at India Poker Championship (IPC) in 2015. The same year he won his first major live title at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Manila Finale, Manila. He went on to claim his second major live title at Macau Poker Cup 27 in 2017. He regularly plays at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) since 2017 and has 20 cashes at the series.

His best live cash so far has been $378,765, which he won at The Closer event at WSOP 2018. Additionally, he has $716,050 in live tournament earnings so far.

Paawan Bansal’S FAVOURITE TOURNAMENT PLAYERS

As mentioned above, Bansal himself is a well-known name in the circuit who has been around for over seven years now. So let’s know from Bansal who he picks as his favourite three MTT poker players in the country.

Gaurav Sood

Gaurav Sood

Well, Gaurav Sood is undoubtedly the best MTT player in the country. Every player we asked so far has picked Sood as their favourite, and we cannot deny why. Bansal says, “Gaurav is incredibly hard-working and ambitious,” which, according to him, makes him one of the best players in the country.

Sood has been consistent, and his results speak for him. He is currently crushing the virtual poker felts, and live felts too. He grabbed his first two live titles last year, first at the Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) in Goa, and then at Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) in Manila.

His second pick is another renowned player Anuj Yadav. Bansal describes Yadav as, “Hard working and diligent.” Bansal further adds that Yadav is “Unafraid to take different lines,” which makes him a fearless and risk-taking player.

Yadav’s approach has undoubtedly been working for him. He has over 300 online titles to his name, however, is yet to clinch a live title. He has made it to the final table of India Poker Championship (IPC) Megastacks May 2022, which is his best live cash so far.

Ashish Munot

Bansal’s final pick is pro Ashish Munot. According to Bansal, Munot has excellent theoretical knowledge paired with consistent application, which has ensured his consistent results.

With some fantastic results both live and online, Munot is a well-respected name in the circuit. He has World Poker Tour (WPT), and APPT titles to name a few.

We agree with Bansal and his picks, as these players are indeed some of the best MTT players in the country currently. We will come back with more such picks by the top pros. So stay tuned for more articles from the Top MTT Players series
