Talk about multi-table tournament (MTT) players in India, and we have a good number of players who are crushing it in the circuit. Whether these are veterans who have been here for a long time or newer pros, who have just started a couple of years ago, their passion for the game and their willingness to excel is driving them to aim for glory and consequently give the Indian poker industry a great boost.
The place where the Indian poker space stands today and wherever it is headed in the coming years is majorly because of the players who are pushing their limits every day. To understand better who currently are the top MTT players in the country, we got in touch with a veteran and a leading MTT player himself – Ashish Ahuja.
Ashish Ahuja is a lawyer-turned-professional poker player. He has been an active player in the circuit for over eight years now. Ahuja has multiple live as online titles to his name, the most notable one being the World Series of Poker (WSOP) circuit ring. He won his first-ever WSOPC ring after taking down Event #11 of the WSOP 2022 Online Circuit.
Apart from the circuit ring, the Chandigarh-based player, who made his WSOP debut in 2019, has a total of 14 cashes at the series. He also has Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) and Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) titles to his name. His list of online titles is a lengthy one, with the most recent and notable one being the Final Table Series (FTS) 6.0 Main Event G.O.D title.
Being one of the most significant names in the Indian poker tournament space himself, Ahuja shared with us who are his favourite MTT players in the country. Here’s who he picks.
By now, we all are aware that Sriharsha Doddapaneni is one of the best MTT players that the country currently has. Ahuja further proves it by picking Doddapaneni as one of his favourites. Talking about Doddapaneni, Ahuja says, “He has proved over and over again in all the high roller events that he’s a league-apart player. I believe he is a high roller specialist not just in India, but at the global level too.”
Well, no one can argue on that. Among Doddapaneni’s several achievements, the most unforgettable one is when he shipped the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) Highroller and Super High Roller titles in the same 2021 edition.
Ahuja next picks the other notable Ashish in the circuit – Ashish Munot. Ahuja believes that Munot has grown immensely in the past few years and has the potential to go a long way. “This kid has grown exponentially in the last couple of years. He has been crushing it, not just online but live too. The amount of effort he puts into being ahead of the curve is unreal. His hunger to grow and be the best is insane. His name will surely go down in the list of poker legends in the coming time,” says Ahuja.
It’s a no-brainer why Ahuja picks Munot. The results that Munot has managed to get in the past few years speak volumes about his growth as a pro and is there for everyone to see.
Ahuja’s top pick is none other than Aditya Agarwal. With great awe, Ahuja says, “Whatever I say about Adi is less. He’s been the best for almost two decades now. It’s just insane how someone is doing something over a period of 20 years and is still excelling with no one even close to his calibre.” Talking about the impact Agarwal has created, he further adds, “It’s not just him; the students he has coached are all crushing at the Indian and International circuit, and that speaks for the unmatchable talent he possesses.”
Agarwal needs no introduction. It’s almost impossible not to mention Agarwal when talking about the Indian poker circuit.
Well, that was Ashish Ahuja sharing his picks for the top MTT players in India. Let us know what you think of his selection and who you think is the best MTT player in India in the comments below.
