Weijie Zheng wins 2019 Irish Poker Open ME

The 2019 Irish Poker Open (IPO) €1,150 Main Event was the highlight of the IPO held at Citywest Hotel, Dublin a couple of days ago on Monday. The tournament attracted a total of 1,807 entries and generated a massive €1,805,970 prize pool.

The prize pool is a 34% increase from last year’s Main Event, won by Ryan Mandara for €210K. This time, it was Ireland’s Weijie Zheng who won the series for an awesome €300K (~INR 2.34 Crores) as the first-place cash prize.

This is Zheng’s best live cash by a huge margin, previously having about $26K in tournament earnings up till now, according to Hendon Mob database. The Final Table gameplay began with Zheng already in the lead, with double the chips of the next best stack of Max Silver.

UK’s Steven Alper was the first to get railed by Zheng, entering the day with a middle stack. He earned €21K as 9^th place pay-out. Ireland’s Seamus Cahill was next to go at 8^th place for €27.5K. A series of eliminations later, heads-up between two Ireland’s players Dave Masters and Zheng was reached.

The final hand was sort of a coin flip. Masters shoved his 28 BBs with Sixes and Zheng snap-called with King-jack. The board gave a jack on the flop and that was enough for Zheng to ship the tournament. The runner-up settled for €190K as his pay-out.
