Vivek Rughani finishes an impressive 88th in WSOP Main Event

The 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event saw its second biggest field in the history of the event, with 7,874 entries registering to the event over three days of starting fields. Since then, Gutshot has been following the progress of the tournament and the Indian players participating in it as well.

At the end of Day 4 of the event, three Indians progressed among the final 310 survivors while two of them bagged their chips among 109 survivors at the end of Day 5 of this prestigious poker tournament. These two Indians were Nishant Sharma and Vivek Rughani.

It was an incredible run by these two players going into Day 6 earlier today. Rughani progressed with 1,545,000 chips while Sharma had a pretty decent stack of 5,800,000 chips. Just a few hours back, Rughani exited the tournament in 88th place, registering the second-best finish by an Indian player at the WSOP Main Event.

The best was a 71st place finish for $96,445 by Aditya Agarwal in the 2015 Main Event and Rughani has done brilliantly to finish 88th from among nearly 8,000 entries that included some of the best poker players from around the world. He walked away with a handsome prize of $77,695 (~INR 53.48 lakh).

This score was his career best live cash by a long way, beating the $13,536 (INR 9.05 lakh) he earned for shipping the DPT Colossus Warm up Event in April this year. He has also more than doubled his career live poker winnings and he has definitely announced himself as a top Indian poker pro with this finish. Rughani will be extremely proud of this achievement, competing among hundreds of bracelet winners and a few past Main Event Champions too.

However, his second-best finish at the WSOP Main Event by an Indian is soon going to become the third best as Sharma is among the top 10 chip stacks among the final 36 players, where the payout is running at $230,475.
