US Poker Open 2021: Ali Imsirovic Takes A Lead With Event #9 Win

The 2021 US Poker Open is in progress and the weekend events seemed to turn the tables around. Ali Imsirovic emerged victorious at the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #9 by defeating Andrew Lichtenberger. Along with this victory, Imsirovic has also managed to take the lead over the overall championship rankings.

Joe McKeehen was leading the championship, however, Imsirovic’s win gave him the lead over McKeehen in the overall rankings. With only three events of the schedule pending, the chances of Imsirovic claiming the championship title are very high.

The tournament was a 99 player field, which boiled down to just seven players at the final table. The first to leave the table was Jake Schindler who walked away with  $49,500 at the seventh position. Thomas Winters cashed $59,400 at the sixth position, while Erik Seidel walked with $74,250 at the fifth spot. The fourth spot was claimed by Vanessa Kade who took home $94,050.

Cary Katz finished third by adding $1,18,800 to his bankroll. Andrew Lichtenberger and Ali Imsirovic battled it out for the top spot, but Lichtenberger  had to settle for the runner-up position for $1,58,400. Imsirovic emerged victorious and took a pay cheque of  $2,17,800.

Imsirovic’s victory at this event helped him improve his overall ranking in the championship and take the lead over his rivals. He managed to earn 218 points at this event and took his overall score to 406. Imsirovic wasn’t the only one who benefitted from this event. Lichtenberger may have not won the event, but the points he earned helped him to rank second in the overall championship. He earned 158 from this event taking his overall score to 308.

McKeehen, who was leading the overall rankings with a score of 302, now holds the third spot in the championship rankings. He now has only three events left where he can reclaim his position at the top of the table. The Overall Championship rankings currently are as follows:

  1. Ali Imsirovic (406 points)
  2. Andrew Lichtenberger (308 points)
  3. Joe McKeehen (302 points)
  4. Steve Zolotow (289 points)

  6. Dan Shak (236 points)
  7. Maxx Coleman (231 points)
