TonyBet Closes its Independent Online Poker Room

As the world is progressing at a faster rate, so are people engaged with emerging technologies. Casinos have moved to online platforms from their traditional land based casinos. People have been loving the virtual versions of casinos even before the coronavirus pandemic. The reason for the ongoing popularity of online casinos is their convenience and the opportunities they provide to their users. There are many poker houses and rooms designed to make money available for people to have some fun.

One of them is Tonybet Poker that launched in 2013 as a standalone room and was unique in that it offered Open Face Chinese Poker and in 2015 they launched Hold’em and Omaha. On 20th July, Tonybet announced the closure of its poker division which has been running for the past seven years. Swedish gaming giant Betsson, the parent company of TonyBet did not release any statement regarding the sudden closure. Many fans lost their favourite poker room, but whenever one brand closes, it creates an opportunity for new promotions. Poker affiliates will have to refocus and new promotions can help players find a new online poker home.

The TonyBet sportsbook which launched in 2009 by a known poker professional Antanas Guoga, better known as Tony G. The site was one of the first to be licensed in Estonia, from where it operates internationally. The TonyBet website is a gateway for placing bets on lottery, sports, casino, offering poker rooms, and other games. Although the focus has always been on sports betting, TonyBet is popular among punters, poker players, casino fans, and lottery players alike. Though it remained a small European room, it was set apart with features such as unique software developed by TGLab and an unusual rakeback program. Tonybet was later absorbed by the Swedish company Betsson.

Despite all the efforts of the poker room team to boost its popularity, it seems like it did not reach its expected goal. So, probably Betsson decided to focus Tonybet as its main product which is sports betting, and not wasting resources on online poker.
