Tony Miles leads final 3 in WSOP Main Event

Just three players remain in the hunt for the next WSOP World Champion. The tournament is said to be the most prestigious poker tournament in the world and this year, a prize pool of over $74 million was up for grabs, of which most of the prizes have been awarded already.

The final three but the biggest three prizes are yet to be given out as the original field of 7,874 entries has been reduced to the final three players at the end of Day 9 of the event. USA poker player Tony Miles has a massive chip lead over the other two and he will be dreaming about that $8.8 million prize when he sleeps tonight.

The day began with the final 6 players, with Aram Zobian busting in 6th, followed by 2009 Main Event Champion Joe Cada busting in 5th place. Day 7 chip leader Nicolas Manion was the last person to be sent to the rail in 4th place, but he took a prize of $2,825,000 along with him.

Miles now has 238,900,000 in chips, which is almost double John Cynn’s 128,700,000 and way ahead of Day 8 chip leader Michael Dyer’s 26,200,000 chips. When these three hit the tables on Day 10 tomorrow morning, one will walk away as the new WSOP World Champion and that person’s name will go down in WSOP history. Interestingly, Miles has just about $50k in live cashes before this.

Dyer came into Day 9 with nearly 40% of the chips in play and we thought that he would run away with the title, but he seems likely to hit the rail first tomorrow morning. “It’s indescribable. It’s a dream come true. It’s truly magical,” said Miles about ending as chip leader among the final 3. The next person to bust will be paid out $3,750,000.

Current chip counts with Big Blinds:

  1. John Cynn – 128,700,000 – 80
  2. Tony Miles – 238,900,000 – 149
  3. Michael Dyer – 26,200,000 – 16
