Superstar Arjun Rampal Plays Poker for COVID relief

Several industries and individuals across the globe are coming together to support one another in the fight against the current health crisis. Be it Hollywood, sports, poker, casino owners, each and every sector is making numerous efforts by hosting COVID-19 Charity programs. And one of the fastest growing online poker room, PokerHigh is contributing their bit to raise funds.

The bollywood superstar Arjun Rampal who signed on as the company’s brand ambassador in 2017 is making the most of the lockdown period by spending time with his family, playing poker and raising funds for smaller charities in the country. The initiative began about two months from now, when the team started sending meals to almost 2 lakh people. This is being carried out by hosting online tournaments while winners of respective events get to keep the prize money, whatever stake the bank makes goes to the NGO.

Rampal said, “There was a big surge in the number of people logging in to play [poker] during lockdown. We thought why not use this skilled game to give back to smaller NGOs that have not been getting recognition,” he explained, “There are different teams representing the charities and people can decide which one they wish to play for.”

There are other NGOs too like the one that serve animals Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA) in Bengaluru and Humanity for Animals in Kochi about which Rampal said, “Human life is important but so are the lives of animals.” In phase one they managed to accumulate INR 2.11 Lakhs out of which CUPA received INR 72,000, feeding over 150 dogs at the centre of the month and Pudhiya Udhayam received INR 1.38 Lakhs, taking care of at least 500 families in Chennai.

Looking at the severe health crisis, he adds, “We have to be far more compassionate and be open to change.” The poker enthusiast believes that the current pandemic is a huge wake-up for everyone and “it is important to adapt and adjust.” Several poker platforms around the world and even in India are joining hands to support those in dire need because thousands of people have been furloughed due to the shutdown of non-essentials for over four months now and PokerHigh is contributing their bit to fight against the pandemic!
