Sumit Sapra ships SSS Event #8 on Spartan

It was a good day of poker for popular player Sumit Sapra, who plays under the name ‘mrgr33n’ on The Spartan Poker. Currently, the September edition of the Spartan Super Series (SSS) is being hosted and yesterday was Day 2 of the series, where Sapra made a couple of deep runs to make a good addition to his poker bankroll and end the day at #2 on the SSS Leaderboard.

Sapra is a player who has plenty of achievements in online as well as live poker, with his most recent major title coming when he won The Summit on PokerBaazi around ten days back. Now, he added another title to his collection, shipping SSS Event #8 INR 3 Lakh GTD last night on Spartan.

Earlier, Sapra was set to ship the opening tournament of the day but ‘JuntaDel’ made a brilliant comeback to win SSS Event #6, with Sapra having to settle for the runner-up position. This time, however, he wasn’t going to take second-place again, shipping this INR 1,650 freezeout tournament and taking away the top prize of INR 69,000.

A total of 183 entries registered to the tournament and this prize pool was eventually shared among the top 24 finishers with a minimum cash prize of INR 3,000. Sapra took away the top prize after beating ‘ALBATROSS’ in heads-up, who settled for the runner-up prize of INR 46,350.

Sapra had a chip lead of over 5:1 before we came to the final hand, which was in Level #40, when the blinds were at 6,300/12,600 – 1,260. Here, Sapra shoved all his chips into the pot with Kh Td and ALBATROSS called with 9h Jh. The board opened Qs Tc Jd 6h Ad and even though ALBATROSS was ahead for most of the hand, the Ace on the river gave Sapra a Ten to Ace straight, which helped him take down the title.

This is one of many titles in poker for Sapra, and he will be looking to play out several more tournaments in this edition of the SSS, after having ended Day 2 second on the Leaderboard, behind only ‘M@neyM@ker’, who has won a title on both days of the series so far. Gutshot spoke to Sapra after the win. He said, “It was a fun day, had deep runs in several events and 4 final tables. Really looking forward to the big ones coming up in the next few days.”
