Stephen Chidwick completes hat-trick of USPO titles

The 2nd edition of the US Poker Open (USPO), underway at the ARIA Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, declared its first winner of the series, and it turned out to be none other than Stephen Chidwick. The British pro has now completed a hat-trick, having previously won two titles in the inaugural USPO edition last year.

Only 9 tournaments have been hosted throughout USPO, and Chidwick won 3 of them with this latest win. He earned $216k (~INR 1.54 Crores) as first-place cash prize winning USPO Event #1 $10k NLHE. He topped the 90-entry field and beat Sean Winter in heads-up, who earned $157.5k as runner-up cash prize. Final Table chip leader Joseph Cheong finished at 3rd place for $112.5k.

After the first elimination on the Final Table, Chidwick doubled up through Lazaro Hernandez where the former flopped nuts Ten-high straight. Hernandez shoved with an open-ended straight and Chidwick easily made the call to win a big pot there.

Chidwick later talked about this hand saying, “I just smashed the flop and luckily it was one where he kinda had to get his money in too and that hand put me in a great position to win more pots after that.” Chidwick later elminiated Hernandez at 5th place with Ace-jack against Ace-ten in a pre-flop all-in situation.

At one point, Cheong and Winter managed to each double up through Chidwick but then the eventual champion railed Cheong at 3rd place with Ace-king. Heads-up too didn’t last long as Chidwick turned a gutshot straight draw, which also incidentally gave Winter a set. Winter shoved but failed to make anything on the river. Chidwick ultimately made his straight and took home his 3rd USPO title.

Chidwick has over $21 million in live earnings till date. He is a very well-known international poker entity hailing from England. He had figured 1st in the 2017 GPI Player of the Year standings. He is 1st on England’s All Time Money List too. This win is a landmark moment in his career, and he’ll be looking to make a few more headlines in coming time.

 Final Table Pay-outs:

  1. Stephen Chidwick – $216,000
  2. Sean Winter – $157,500
  3. Joseph Cheong – $112,500
  4. Joseph Cappello – $90,000
  5. Lazaro Hernandez – $72,000
  6. Joseph Orsino – $54,000
