SSS Day 3: “Thank God it’s Friday,” says Wilson Yomso

Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF) is a weekly online poker offering on Spartan Poker and yesterday was another edition of the same, except this one had a small bump in guarantee since it’s part of the Spartan Super Series (SSS) schedule. INR 12 Lakh was the guaranteed prize pool here.

Kicking off at 7:30pm last evening, the tournament attracted a total field of 383 entries, each ponying up the INR 3,300 buy-in amount. INR 10,560 was the min-cash and this went out to 31 of the top players of the night, which included many of India’s top poker names.

It was nearly 2am this morning when the final hand took place and a winner emerged. Wilson Yomso plays as ‘RohiniSharma’ on Spartan Poker and he played his way to another major title on this platform, beating Sumit ‘holla@yoboy’ Sapra in heads-up to bag INR 2,53,800 as first-place prize.

Those who finished in the money included Siddarth Singhvi (27th), Sahil Agarwal (24th), Siddharth Karia (19th), Deepak Bothra (10th), Naren Purohit (5th) and others. Eventually, heads-up began between Sapra and Yomso, with the former having to settle for the runner-up prize of INR 1,70,880.

Yomso would’ve been mighty proud of his achievement last night, especially after beating someone like Sapra in heads-up, the latter being one of the most accomplished players in the country. Commenting on the same, Yomso said, “Heads up with one of the best players and coming out on top is one of the best feelings ever.”

By the time we reached the final hand of the tournament, Yomso had created a chip lead of over 5:1 for himself which forced Sapra to shove all-in pre-flop with 3c Ah, hoping his ace would do him good. However, Yomso revealed Kd 2d and the board rolled out 4s Ks 2c 9h Qh to give him Kings and Twos.
