Through the years, the poker community in India has been involved in various charitable works. Among the various poker platforms that have contributed to a good cause, Spartan Poker is one such brand that has been giving back to the community from their inception 5 years ago. Every year this poker platform looks for new ways to do its bit to make our society a better place to live in. This year, once again Spartan is putting its best foot forward and is now hosting a knockout tournament called ‘Mukkamaar’ for charity. The tournament is named after the NGO MukkaMaar.org founded by actor Ishita Sharma with whom the poker portal has been long associated with.
The rise in violence against women and children in India shows us that the country is often not a safe place for them. Founded in 2018, the Mumbai-based MukkaMaar organization which provides a three year, cost-free program in which young girls are trained in aspects focusing on developmental areas including physical fitness, mental well-being and emotional stability. The organization aims to empower girls with the skills to protect themselves along with boosting their self-esteem. The NGO has taken more than 3,000 girls under its wings across 66 schools.
Sharma is a well-known Indian actress, entrepreneur, and social activist who is recognized for her roles in Loins of Punjab (2007) and the hit kids show Shakalaka Boom Boom. Trained in martial arts, the actress’ passion for social causes came to light when she began teaching self-defense techniques to a small group of young girls on a beach. From single digits, the number of participating girls kept growing going past 100 and ultimately led to the formation of MukkaMaar, an NGO dedicated to giving young girls the skills needed to defend themselves from unwanted advances.
Spartan Poker’s association with the MukkaMaar Foundation is not a new one. The poker platform and the NGO partnered in March 2018, 2019 and 2020 to celebrate International Woman’s Day where the girls from MukkaMaar organisation displayed their unparalleled martial arts abilities. The events also highlighted the importance of educating girls with a short documentary called ‘Girl Rising.’ Messages like ‘Stronger Together’ and ‘Fight Like A Girl’ were also a part of the celebrations.
The 10 Lakh GTD MukkaMaar tournament on Spartan Poker is being hosted in association with the NGO. This charity tournament will run every Saturday at 9:30 PM and has a buy-in of INR 3,000. The rake generated from this tournament will be shared with the organization with a fixed payout of INR 25,000 for every tournament that is played. This gives players the opportunity to use their poker skills and donate to a cause that gives young girls the skills they need to defend themselves. Players can further extend their help and donate to Mukkamaar.org.
