Schumacher leads APT Championships Day 1B; 2 Indian progress

Yesterday, we spoke about the initial starting flight of the APT Kickoff Vietnam 2019 Championships Event. Day 1A was played on 16th January and the VND 38.5 million buy-in tournament attracted a total of 123 runners. From these, 60 progressed including 7 Indians, while Day 1B also saw some Indian players in the mix.

The second and final starting flight started yesterday at 1pm local time and by the end of the day’s play, a total of 99 entries joined the field. From these, 49 managed to find themselves a bag at the end of the day, with USA’s Stephen Schumacher ending as the chip leader with 275,900 in chips.

Schumacher shared the lead with a few others but managed a big pot towards the end of the day against Vietnam’s Nguyen Hoang Bach, which helped him take a comfortable lead. Japanese pro Iori Yogo, who Gutshot recently conducted an exclusive interview with, has also progressed with a decent chip stack of 142k.

Representing the Indian contingent are two very talented players in Romit Advani and Abhinav Iyer. The latter was recently crowned champion in Vietnam for shipping the Main Event in this series a couple of days back and will be looking to continue the momentum. He has a stack of 92k, while Advani progresses with 153k.

What that means is a combined total of 109 players will return to the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City today to continue Day 2 of the Championships Event, with 9 Indians in the mix. The VND 6 Billion guarantee was smashed with a prize pool of VND 7.7 Billion being created, and everyone will have their eyes on the top prize.

Combined top 10 Day 2 chip counts:

  1. Stephen Schumacher – 275,900
  2. Dinh Xuan Dinh – 245,900
  3. Soo Jo Kim – 229,200
  4. Duy Thanh Dang – 213,800
  5. Lim Yo Hwan – 205,900
