Sands Macao launches new poker room

Sands Macao, one of Macau’s famous hotel and casino has just inaugurated a new poker room to be included in their premises. The casino is owned by Las Vegas Sands Corporation and consists of a 229k sq. feet casino and a 289-suite hotel.

The new poker room at Sands Macao was officially open on Saturday, when it welcomed its first players in the afternoon. The casino made this decision of inaugurating a new poker room to introduce poker to its visitors and customers, also to diversify the casino’s offerings.

Sands already operates a poker room in The Venetian Macao, another one of its casinos in the region. The new poker room at Sands Macao is a relatively humble one with four tables offering games from HKD 25/50 to HKD 2,000/4,000. On the opening night of the poker room, three of the tables were already full.

This new poker room has been constructed on the main gaming floor itself, alongside the High Limit Area. The room also includes a big reception desk, a couch, two sitting chairs and a side table for players waiting for a seat at one of the tables.

In similar news, Macau recently allowed Melco, another of Macau’s casinos, to add 40 new mass gaming tables. Contrastingly, Galaxy Macau, one of the casinos in the region had shut down its poker room recently after just a year of operations. City of Dreams also evicted PokerStars LIVE Macau in April last year.

With all this going on in the region, poker is increasingly becoming a rare sight in Macau, and in the wake of all this, for Sands Macao to inaugurate a new poker room is sort of a respite for poker enthusiasts looking to indulge in the Macau poker scene.

Macau has seen a 14% uptick in 2018 Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) from the casino operations, and the trend doesn’t look like it will stop, poker or no poker. So, it’s in the best interest of the government to keep the poker rooms running. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for more such industry news from the Asia-Pacific region.
