Success in poker is not only measured by how many titles you ship, but also by your consistency in the game. In a country with a steadily rising number of poker players, there are many who are not popular but have been gaining solid ground in the poker circuit. One such player is Sai Kiran Mudulkar, PokerHigh’s Player of the Month (January 2022).
Mudulkar is a dedicated poker player who discovered his passion for the game since his IIT Bombay days. Having professional poker players for roommates ultimately led to his interest in the game. “I have seen them play for hours, sitting beside them and anticipating their moves, and discussing a few critical hands, thereby understanding the reason for their moves,” said Mudulkar.
This poker enthusiast has been grinding on the online felts for quite some time now. Recently, he also performed exceptionally well in the 12th edition of India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) on PokerHigh. With high ROI on his buy-ins, multiple ITM finishes, and overall performance on the platform, Mudulkar was chosen as PokerHigh’s Player of the Month. So, we spoke to Mudulkar to learn more about his game.
How does it feel to be PokerHigh’s Player of the Month?
I am really excited about the journey ahead and feel honoured to be chosen as the Player of the Month on PokerHigh. I hope to achieve many more titles in the future.
According to PokerHigh’s data, you have 34 in the money (ITM) finishes. How do you maintain your consistency in the game?
Well, I played for 12 days in January and coincidentally IOPC January 2022 was also running on PokerHigh. That’s when I decided to play as many satellites as I could and was able to get a ticket most of the time.
You got into the IOPC #62 ₹12 Lakh GTD Saturday Spotlight via a ticket from a satellite and finished in the 44th place for ₹7,435. Tell us about your approach during this event.
I’ve played all the major tournaments in IOPC by winning tickets via satellites. I felt that my approach was more profitable and I continued playing more tournaments. I also fired more bullets when I was sure about the value in the prize pool.
How do you balance your time between grinding and other interests?
I have a full-time job, and I play poker after my office hours. I have a fixed schedule that I follow in order to equally divide my time for poker and my day job.
Given that there are various poker platforms to grind in, what is it about PokerHigh that keeps you coming back for more?
I have recently started grinding on PokerHigh which is a good platform. I had accounts on most online poker sites when I was in Bangalore. But they got deactivated after the Karnataka ban. Now, I play from Dehradun, and I grind across all sites.

Since bankroll management is an important aspect of playing poker, how do you choose which tournaments to grind on?
Being good at bankroll management needs experience. It also helps if pro players give you advice on the same. If someone is new to poker, I would tell them to limit their investments to ₹15 – ₹20K per month, if they’re just grinding across MTTs (multi-table tournaments). Later, you can also start investing ₹1 – ₹2 Lakh per month if you’re grinding in all major tournaments, at least five days a week.
Which tournament do you wish to ship in the coming future?
I want to ship all the high guarantee tournaments across all poker sites. However, if we’re talking about PokerHigh, then I would definitely want to ship the Millionaire.
With that, we bring our conversation with Mudulkar to a close.
