Sahil Chutani sole Indian among 48 at EPT Barcelona ME

The 2019 European Poker Tournament (EPT) festival is underway and the prestigious €5,300 Main Event is one step away from announcing the ultimate champion at Casino Barcelona as Day 3 concluded with 48 players still in play.

All eyes are stuck on the top prize of €1.6 million, which is a large share of the €9.6 million prize pool. Out of 191 players that began on Day 2, the field was further cut down to 48 players progressing to the final showdown.

Leading the field on Day 3 is Pasquale Braco with 2,800,000 chips, the Italian who stood 11th in the €1,100 EPT National, followed by Shannon Shorr with 2,515,000 chips, and Diego Falcone with 2,310,000. The other top stacks of the day include Simon Brandstrom (2,300,000), Ut Tam Vo (2,275,000), Jonas Ten Cate (2,240,000) and Jerry Odeen (2,135,000).

8 Indian players made it through the starting flights of the record-breaking event, but only 3 of them progressed to Day 3. Day 3 then proved lucky for Sahil Chutani who progresses with 1,170,000 chips, ahead of the current average stack, the only Indian player among 48 survivors.

The two other Indian poker players to bust during the day were Raman Gujral who finished at 73rd and Kunal Punjwani at 99th position, taking home €17,160 (~INR 13.58 Lakh) and €14,750 (~INR 11.67 Lakh) respectively.

A few big names were unable to make it through the event, while others who progressed included past winners in the series like €2,200 National High Roller winner Alexander Ivarsson (1,585,000), €1,100 National champion Markku Koplimaa (455,000), and €100,000 High Roller winner Sergi Reixach (430,000).
