While Indian Rummy is the most common variation in India (duh!), there are others like Gin Rummy, Shanghai Rummy, Knock Rummy, 500 Rummy, Points Rummy, Deals and Pool rummy etc. that are more popular across the world. 2. A Rummy Record To Remember

Rummy is a favourite among a lot of people, but there are some that just take their love for the game to another level. 3. The Joker Was Introduced By Americans

The joker card is perhaps the most helpful card in rummy. However, did you know that it was not always a part of the game until it was introduced by American’s during the Civil War? That’s right. It was first created as a trump card for another game called Euchre. Being fond of trump cards, the Americans then proceeded to include it in rummy as well. Which we think many rummy players will agree was a good decision.

4. Indian Rummy Is Also Called ‘Paplu’

Being one of the most popular card games in India, it’s no surprise that the rummy game has its own name to Indians. ‘Paplu’ is just another name for Indian Rummy. But why? Well, the word is actually a part of rummy terminology. It is one among three words that are used when playing a rummy game, the other two are ‘Nichlu’ and ‘Tiplu.’ In rummy, these three words are used to refer to the three-point cards in the game.

• Bonus fun fact: Paplu is also called Marriage Rummy because it was mostly played after marriage ceremonies to pass the time.

5. Americans Love Gin Rummy

Just like Indian Rummy is widely played in India, Gin Rummy is one of the most common variations of rummy played in America. It became a fad in America in the 1940s where the one who scored 100 points first would win the game. It was created in 1909 by Elwood T, Baker and C. Graham Baker, his son. It is a two-player card game that is still widely popular today.
