Zhou Jiaping takes down APT Vietnam Main Event title

When play resumed yesterday on Day 4 of the APT Vietnam Main Event, there were only 8 players still in contention to win the coveted title. The final two Indian runners busted late on Day 3, including Manoj Pentakota finishing in 12th place after initially holding the chip lead for a while.

Play kicked off with just one Chinese player among the final 8 – Zhou Jiaping. Little did he know that a few hours later, he would be lifting the APT Vietnam Main Event trophy, after starting the day 5th in chip counts. 4 eliminations on the FT helped him make his way to the top, bagging the trophy, an APT Championship Ring, and a massive pay-out of VND 1,892,170,000 (~INR 55.88 Lakh).

The VND 22 million buy-in Main Event attracted 458 entries (340 unique, 118 re-entries) and beat the guarantee with a smashing prize pool of VND 8,885,200,000, which was then distributed among the top 46 finishers in the tournament. As for Jiaping, he not only earned his first APT title, but it also turned out to be his first-ever live poker title too.

Final Table Results:

  1. Zhou Jiaping – VND 1,892,170,000
  2. Nguyen Nam Duong – VND 1,261,440,000
  3. Oliver Helm – VND 876,930,000
  4. Nguyen Tien Thanh – VND 633,930,000
  5. Quang Nguyen – VND 473,680,000
  6. Nguyen Pham Duy Khanh – VND 365,580,000
  7. Nguyen Duc Thanh – VND 290,310,000
  8. Tobias Napel Cornelis – VND 236,520,000

Other tournaments were also taking place simultaneously including the VND 8,800,000 Short Deck tournament, which attracted 58 entries. Usually not a very popular format among Indians, Manish Lakhotia participated in the tournament and ran deep to finish in 4th place for VND 44,600,000 (~INR 1.31 Lakh). Remember, this comes a few days after he already shipped one title at the Pro Poker Club. The tournament was shipped by Korea’s Lee Seok Young for VND 133,250,000.

Today, the Championships Event takes off at APT Vietnam and we expect a handful of Indian players to be in attendance there as well, so stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for all updates.
