Yasheel Doddanavar finishes 15th in APT Philippines ME

India’s Yasheel Doddanavar has been travelling and making quite a name for himself in live poker over the last month or two in Asia. He has been making deep runs in various series, the latest being the Asian Poker Tour (APT) in Philippines, where he impressed one and all in the prestigious PHP 10 Million GTD Main Event.

Doddanavar qualified from starting flight 1A of the tournament which had a buy-in of PHP 55,000. Eventually, the prize pool swelled up to PHP 24,395,500 (~$ 468k) due to a record Philippines Main Event field of 503 entries. Yesterday was Day 3 of the tournament and Doddanavar was still in action, the only one representing Team India, and he ended up doing really well.

Up against the top Asia poker pros, Doddanavar made his way through the competition, making it to the money on Day 3 as only the top 51 players were given a cash prize of a minimum of PHP 102,700. As for Doddanavar, he wanted much more than a min-cash but eventually couldn’t go past the top 15 players, ending a fantastic run.

Down in chips, Doddanavar shoved all-in pre-flop with the last of his 296k chips holding 86 off-suit. He received a quick call from Jessie Supnet who overturned pocket Queens. Doddanavar hit a pair on the board but that wasn’t enough to beat Queens and he headed out in 15th place for a pay-out of PHP 306,600 (~INR 4.11 Lakh).

Doddanavar is reported to have tilted just before busting, only a couple of hours before play halted for the day. When play stopped, just 8 players remained, led by local boy Christopher Mateo who has a massive stack of 3.94 million. Supnet, who railed Doddanavar, is the shortest stack on the FT with 605k chips.

Final table chip counts:

  1. Christopher Mateo – 3.94 million
  2. Jung Seung Mook – 2.23 million
  3. Marvin Rettenmaier – 1.71 million
  4. Su Tianhong – 1.67 million
  5. Vamerdino Magsakay – 1.38 million
  6. Lu Zhenghao – 865k
  7. Keichiro Sugimoto – 665k
  8. Jessie Supnet – 605k

All these players will return today on the final day at 1:30pm local time to battle it out for the top prize of PHP 5,085,400. Until then, keep following GutshotMagazine.com for all latest updates.
