Unibet Poker to move all 2020 land-based events online


Who could have predicted that the new decade would be ruled by COVID-19? The poker players were looking forward to boosting their bankrolls, lifting trophies and travel around the world. Thousands of poker fanatics out there had their WSOP, WPT, SHRB and many such events on wish list, well, with the postponement of each of these events, series after series are lined up on various platforms ready jump in on the booming online poker action.

You now have to ink your calendar with another news. Kindred Group’s Unibet Poker has moved its land-based poker tournament online for the rest of the year due to the ongoing restrictions, with three Unibet Open Online scheduled for 2020. The website read, “the games are not cancelled, but they will be re-homed within the independent online poker client.” In addition to this, there will also be Fall and Winter Unibet Open Online series in September and December, but the dates haven’t been finalized yet.Unibet Poker to move all 2020 land-based events online

It is good news for Unibet fans, the merged Unibet Online Series VIII will be the biggest in the online poker operator’s history, over double the size of previous series. The €1 million GTD is spread across 132 events between 1 May to 24 May, culminating with €1100 buy-in Unibet Open Main Event on 24th May. Satellites are already running in the poker Unibet Poker client. With this, the players can earn from the comfort of their home, without risking losing money on flights and accommodation.

Head of Events, Nataly Sopacuaperu said, “This is not a decision we have taken lightly, we fully understand the impact to our partners and the land-based venues, however, as a priority, we must consider not only the health of our customers but also the difficulty for recreational players with regards to planning trips around uncertainty.”

Kristoffer Bergvall, Head of Poker said, “We know some people will be disappointed, the team here certainly is, we love the live events! That said, we are all in agreement that this is the best way to ensure the consistency and reliability that people have come to expect from our product, and the online room is better equipped than ever to house our land-based fans.”
