Ujjwal Narwal takes down Elite on Spartan

Seven days in a week but most of the best poker players in India all wait for Friday night on Spartan Poker as this is the night that you get to play The Elite INR 20 Lakh GTD, hosted in the popular 6-Max format. Just as the name suggests, only the elite group of top poker players in the country play this tournament.

This Friday night was no different as 220 entries registered themselves to this tournament with a buy-in of INR 11,000 and this broke the advertised guarantee to create a new prize pool of INR 22 Lakh. As the night progressed and the tournament reached the business stages, the top 20 of these players were paid out INR 29,480 each, which is nearly triple the original investment.

It was Level #42 of the tournament when a winner finally emerged, with the blinds running at 16,000/32,000-2,000 and that winner turned out to be Ujjwal Narwal aka ‘Lord Hendrix’. It always takes a special player to beat this special field and take down Elite, and Narwal is second to none when it comes to bagging major titles.

In fact, he seems to have a habit of taking away the biggest titles, winning SSS Elite just last month for a massive bankroll boost of INR 12+ Lakh. Another month prior to that, he took down the first-ever NPC INR 1 Crore GTD on Adda52 for another major online score. All of these are of course, in addition to other tournaments he wins from time to time across various platforms.

Here, Narwal added INR 5,28,000 to his bank account, beating ‘Yea_gl_gg’ in heads-up and the latter winning INR 3,58,600 for his deep run. With a good chip lead of over 6:1, Narwal was dealt pocket Tens and he shoved pre-flop only to receive a call from his opponent, who held Tc Ad. With the board running Board 9s Jc 7s 2s As, Yea_gl_gg had managed to hit an Ace but Narwal had improved to a single-card Flush to win the hand and the title!
