TIPS 2020: 4 Indians progress to Day 2 of the Spanish Cup


One of the popular overseas festivals run by Indian players is The India Poker Series (TIPS). A creation of Jaydeep Dawer and Manish Goenka, TIPS returned with its third season to Europe’s largest casino, King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic for a seven-day long festival. The series will run between 3-10 February 2020 in collaboration with the Spanish Poker Festival (SPF) which wrapped up Day 1A and 1B starting flights.

Day 1A of the Spanish Cup €50,000 GTD (~INR 40 Lakhs) kicked off with 251 entries, each one chipping in €115 (~INR 9,048) buy-in. Around half of the field consisted of Spanish nationals. The field gradually whittled down to only 53 survivors progressing to Day 2. The first three chip leaders in the Spanish Cup Day 1A are all country mates from Spain with the chip leader Antonio Castro accumulating the largest stack of 449,000. He sits above Juan Jose Roldan and Sergio Garcia Pau both bagging 426,000 chips to Day 2.

Indian poker fanatics never leave out a chance to showcase their poker skills but Avneesh MunjalDawer and Himanshu Dewan were few players who were less fortunate busting out on Day 1A.

Day 1A top 10 chip counts:

  3. Sergio Garcia Pau – 424000
  4. Kevin Jose Dejoz – 390000
  5. Rodrigo Corzo    – 364000
  6. Yeray Maestre Perez – 335000
  7. Radko Krastev Dimitrov – 326000
  8. Josep Pastor De Ramon – 324000
  9. Jeremy Trojand – 270000
  10. Marc Bayo Monllao – 269000

Yesterday at 6 pm,Day 1B registered another set of 401 runners out of which just 77 managed to survive the intense grinding session. Topping the list was Netherland’s Zhong Chen amassing the largest stack of 788,000. Spain’s Mario Martin followed next with 648,000 chips and Steve Berdoyes with 423,000 chips.

Our Indian contingent had a better day in the second starting flight. A total of 4 Indians qualified to Day 2 from yesterday. Leading the Indians were Manish Goenka and Kanishka Samant with approximately 350,000 chips each, while Dawer bagging 202,000 chips and Dewan with 125,000 chips, all of whom will battle it out on Day 2 of the Spanish Cup!
