SSS Day 4: Mall, Agarwal, Kaushik, Bubna, Batra win titles

Yesterday was Day 4 of the cash-rich Spartan Super Series (SSS) and it followed the same format as it does on most days on Spartan Poker. We began with a couple of smaller tournaments and as the night progressed, the bigger buy-ins and bigger guarantees came out. Yesterday, 6 tournaments were held, and a few very well-known players emerged victorious, while some lesser known players came into the limelight by winning SSS titles.

Here’s a summary of SSS Day 4:

SSS Event #17 INR 60k GTD

With a buy-in of INR 165, this was a tournament for some of those players looking to build a bankroll in poker. We had a total of 425 entries recorded and from them, only the top 31 players received pay-outs with the min-cash being INR 561. The winner emerging here was ‘the Scientist’ who bagged INR 13,483 for first-place cash prize. Both players hot two pairs but the Scientist’s KKJJ was better than KK77 of his opponent, ‘duuurrr777’. The runner-up had to settle for INR 9,078.

SSS Event #18 SSS Kick-OFF INR 3 Lakh GTD

Ashish Kaushik is one player who bags a title every now and then on Spartan Poker. On SSS Day 4 too, he won the second tournament of the day which had a buy-in of INR 1,100. Playing as ‘mmonas’, he beat a field of 224 entries to come out on top and bag the first-place cash prize of INR 69,750. Both players had two pairs in the final hand of the tournament, but AA99 turned out to be better than JJ99 as ‘FunkeyFox’ had to settle for the runner-up prize of INR 47,250.

SSS Event #19 PLO INR 2 Lakh GTD

With a buy-in of INR 990, this re-entry tournament turned out to be just the second PLO event of the SSS series, attracting a playing field of 161 entries. 13 players were paid out a minimum cash of INR 4,100 which was nearly four times the initial buy-in. Eventually, it was Harsh Bubna aka ‘Bholeshankar’ who emerged victorious, bagging the top prize of INR 52,500. In heads-up, he got past ‘PlayMyWay’ who won the runner-up prize of INR 36,800. Talking about the victory, Bubna said, “I was playing after a month, so I’m happy with this win, especially since it’s Omaha. I’d love to build on this and do well in the remaining SSS tourneys.”

SSS Event #20 Head-Hunter INR 12 Lakh GTD

This knockout tournament had a buy-in of INR 5,500 and it attracted a field of 241 entries that included some of the best names in the business. It was a very competitive field and the chances of a top pro emerging as winner were very high. In this case, it was Sahil Agarwal aka ‘Nasheyy’ who topped the field for a bankroll addition of INR 2,79,000. The 23 top positions were paid out with a min-cash of INR 13,920 and in heads-up, Agarwal got past ‘BobbyAxelrod1’ who won INR 1,89,000. The final hand was a PFAI situation where both players hit a pair on the flop and two Threes opened on the turn and river. Eventually, Agarwal’s TT33 beat his opponent’s 9933.

SSS Event #21 Texas HR INR 45 Lakh GTD

These kind of tournaments generally attract only the best players in the country, those who have been playing since a while, who know their game well and others’ games better, and those who have a decent bankroll to play with. Each entry in this HR paid a massive buy-in of INR 27,500 and a field of 137 entries signed up, with many firing multiple bullets as well. Goonjan Mall is someone who has been doing well in the online circuit in recent times and it was no surprise that he ended up on top of this field on Spartan Poker, bagging a massive top prize of INR 11,32,000. Playing as ‘gmtesting’, he got past some of the top pros in India including ‘potlords’ in heads-up, who bagged INR 7,65,000 for finishing second. Talking about the win, Mall said, “I was lucky in a lot of spots last night. However, I’m delighted to hit my biggest online score till date. Positive variance life.”

SSS Event #22 Hi-Fi INR 4 Lakh GTD

This is a daily tournament on Spartan Poker, one which has a buy-in of INR 1,650 and you will always find the guarantee being passed in the Daily Hi-Fi. Last night too, the prize pool was taken up to INR 4.44 Lakh which led to the top 27 positions being paid out a minimum prize of INR 4,440 each. Vikram Batra aka ‘vikrambatra’ topped this field and took away the biggest prize, ending SSS Day 3 with a bankroll boost of INR 98,346. In heads-up, he beat Sumit Silwal aka ‘pleasedontbet’ who won INR 66,378 for finishing second.
