Spartan Poker and MukkaMaar celebrate Women’s Day 2020

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March across the globe. This day holds utmost importance in India too where over the years women have failed to exercise equal rights. But now as we enter the new decade, playing numerous societal roles and leaving a significant impact on several domestic and international spheres, women have come a long way.

Various events take place around the world to celebrate this day. And Spartan Poker, among the leading online gaming platforms in the country, has enjoyed a long relationship with MukkaMaar, an NGO which works towards empowering girls through free martial arts and self-defence training, celebrated the International Women’s Day 2020 at PA Mhatre Sports Ground, Juhu, Mumbai.

In 2018, MukkaMaar, a creation of Bollywood actress Ishita Sharma, was celebrated in Rajarani School, Oshiwara, Mumbai, adorned with names like Nushrat Bharucha, Pooja Gor, Kritika Kamra, Nayani Dixit and Tess Joseph. Following two successful years, this year spreading the #FightLikeAGirl message, another event was hosted in Mumbai to mark the occasion, aiming to empower and make the underprivileged girls equipped with self-defence.

Amin Rozani, MD and Co-founder of Spartan Poker said, “We highly appreciate such a thoughtful initiative started by Ishita and the MukkaMaar team. All school kids, especially young girls should learn martial arts and self-defence as it doesn’t only make them physically equipped but it also leads them to living a healthier and better lifestyle. It’s an honour to have associated with MukkaMaar team who has been a constant in making this bigger and better every year.”

Girls of MukkaMaar put up various performances to showcase their power and strength. They also enacted incidents to teach young girls to defend themselves in challenging circumstances and explore their potential. These girls left impactful messages by giving fascinating performances in the venue which saw the team of Spartan Poker and MukkaMaar along with other personalities like actress Richa Chadda, Nilofer Khan, actress, and writer Meghana Kaushik.

Richa Chadda expressed herself after the event, saying, “I’m proud of the MukkaMaar team who is continuously striving hard to reach out to underprivileged girls and teach them self-defence. I am also very pleased to be a part of such a great initiative on Women’s Day and would like to mention to all parents that it’s important for young girls to be trained for martial arts and self-defence. They should be courageous, brave and march confidently in all areas of their lives.”

Here are some of the pictures from the event:

Thrilled by the event, Ishita Sharma said, “It’s heartening and a proud moment to see the impact of all efforts of MukkaMaar team for another successful event. The purpose of such programmes is to strengthen, share, and spread awareness on the roles and rights of women in society. I believe that self-defence is very important with the power it holds. It teaches one confidence, courage and helps break the notion of gender-based violence. I would also like to thank the Spartan Poker team; the event would not have been possible without their support and help.”
