In every sport there are certain players that stand out, poker too has many figures that have earned their spot in the game’s hall of fame. Today’s we’re going to learn about one popular poker player after which this term has been coined – John Junada.
Johnson ‘John’ Juanda is a famous and well-respected name in the poker community. His passion and love for the game have won him many prestigious world poker titles including four World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets. He is of Chinese-Indonesian origin and is one of the most successful players in the industry. He is well-known in the live poker circuit for being a frequent player in the format.

One of his biggest earnings happened in November 2005. He had won the Monte Carlo Millions Consolation tournament, finished sixth in the Monte Carlo Millions Main Event, and second at the ‘The FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational Live from Monte Carlo.’ All these combined wins got him a massive pay cheque of USD 500,000. In 2015, he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame along with Jennifer Harman.
Due to his legendary and well-respected status, the term John Juanda has grown to have a meaning within the game itself. The term refers to when a player gets a pair of jacks dealt to them. The relation of the hand to the name is mostly due to the first initial of being ‘J.J’ indicating two jacks. So whenever a player gets pocket jacks he is said to have a ‘John Juanda.’
