Paawan Bansal records biggest live score by an Indian

It has been a fantastic summer for the Indian contingent at the 2018 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. We’ve reached the end of the series now and we can safely say that this was the best series for India in the history of the WSOP so far, with Nikita Luther bringing home India’s second gold bracelet and Nishant Sharma recording the best finish by an Indian player in the WSOP Main Event – finishing 34th for $230,475 (~INR 1.58 crore).

One Indian player who had a brilliant series was Paawan Bansal, who recorded six cashes prior to today, including a previous best of $35,087 for finishing 13th in the Colossus Event. Now, he has made sure that he leaves Vegas with a bang, recording what has become the biggest live poker score ever recorded by an Indian poker player!

Bansal registered to Event #75: $1,500 The Closer No-Limit Hold’em (30 minute levels) – $1 Million Guarantee and was hoping to end his series on a high. He did exactly that, finishing second in the event and recording a massive score of $378,765 (~INR 2.59 crore) – no Indian has ever cashed out so big at the World Series!

After three days of starting flights, the event ended on Day 2, with the massive field of 3,120 entries smashing the advertised guarantee of $1 million and creating a new prize pool of $4+ million. Bansal was extremely impressive in this tournament, finishing second only to former WSOP Main Event champion and 4-time bracelet winner, Joe Cada.

Quite a few Indians cashed out in this event, but Bansal just took it to the next level by running so deep in the tournament and eventually losing to Cada’s 10 quads. Bansal narrowly missed out on a maiden WSOP bracelet, but he will still be delighted, recording his highest score by a big margin and taking his live poker earnings to nearly $600k.
