Monday Roundup: Kavish Kukreja wins back-to-back majors


After witnessing a smashing Sunday, the contestants kept pouring in last night across virtual felts. Given that Monday is a busy day for all citizens, the poker enthusiasts did not back down and headed off with their bundles of cash rewards. Apart from the overall success, the star player was Kavish Kukreja who won back-to-back features, igniting the Monday fever. So, let’s take a quick tour of Monday majors…

By now the poker fanatics know that Spartan Poker puts down spectacular tournaments for its loyal user base. The December edition of the Spartan Super Series (SSS) INR 5+ Crores GTD began last night! It also included Monday night’s featured tournament ReCharge INR 14 Lakhs GTD.

For a buy-in of INR 2,200, a total number of 744 hopefuls entered to grab the first-place title. Over 7 hours into the competition, a well-known online regular Manish Lakhotia aka ‘thekid’ came out on top, adding a valuable victory to his poker career. The champion defeated Wilson Yomso aka ‘Rohinisharma’ in heads-up to strengthen his bankroll.

Down to the final 2, heads-up got underway. Lakhotia (3c 5d) was carrying a larger stack of 6 million up against Yomso (5c 6c) with 2 million before the final hand. Drawing their respective blinds, the flop 7d 4s 4h opens, the former checks while the latter raises 240k and gets a call from Lakhotia. 3d on the turn saw Lakhotia checking again while Yomso rushed to bet 643k and eventually the entire stack of both players was in the middle. The tables turned with 4c on the river and that’s when Lakhotia flips his full house over his opponent’s straight to triumph the night.

The guarantee slightly surpassed and the top finishers received a portion from the prize pool including Ashish Kaushik aka ‘mmonas’ (15th), Aditya Sushant aka ‘SuperuSer’ (18th), ‘borntrouble’ (19th), Kanishka Samant aka ‘Wildflower’ (20th), Neeraj Kumar aka ‘SelfClaimedPros’ (23rd), Arsh Grover aka ‘BigggTymeR’ (26th), Nadeem Basha aka ‘blindgame’ (38th), Suraj Rathi aka ‘OmgRATHIII’ (39th), Rajat Sharma aka ‘Garammasala’ (46th), Ram Kakkar aka ‘TheLagLawyer’ (49th), Lakshpal Singh aka ‘LuckyBhai$’ (63rd) and so on.

The Bout

Dominating a field of 286 entries, online crusher Kavish Kukreja took away the Bout INR 10 Lakhs GTD title on PokerBaazi. The champion powered through the field after already winning the Sunday SuperStack on Spartan and here he is once again, adding another feather to his poker cap for winning INR 2.52 Lakhs. Playing under the username ‘Narcos’ he railed out Ashish Munot aka ‘OMG_spew’ in heads-up. Eventually, Munot settled for the runner-up position for INR 1.77 Lakhs

Monday Hustle

The headliner event on PokerStars was Monday Hustle INR 6 Lakhs GTD. The players registered themselves for a fixed buy-in of INR 3,300. However, after long intense hours of the grinding session, it was Chandan Arora aka ‘RunBarryRun’ to seize the night for INR 1.19 Lakhs. The chip graph clearly shows Arora climbing above the average stack in the final hour. This well-known circuit grinder eliminated Devvrat Arya aka ‘bhasm@sur1’ in heads-up who finally secured INR 88,088 for the runner-up position.

StackUp

The standout performance was given by Aniket Raj aka ‘pockets’ shipping the tournament for INR 65,000 in prize money after beating ‘ThePlayer’ in heads-up who managed to walk out with INR 45,000. The champion headlined the Monday’s daily feature StackUp INR 2.5 Lakhs GTD on 9stacks which observed a pretty decent field for INR 1,650 buy-in.
