Jamie Gold busts stack on Day 1B of WSOP Main Event

The 2018 World Series of Poker has just a couple of weeks of action left, with the prestigious Main Event beginning yesterday. The $10k buy-in tournament saw over 900 players bagging up on Day 1A and earlier today, a massive number of 2,378 entries registered to Day 1B.

At the end of 5 levels of two hours each on this second day of starting flights, almost 1,800 players bagged their chips to return for Day 2 which will begin a couple of days from today. Headlining the day’s play was French poker pro Smain Mamouni who ended with the chip lead, and Alex Foxen, USA poker pro who has been on a hot run in the last year or so.

Several past bracelet winners also made it among the survivors, including the famous Johnny Chan, who has 10 WSOP gold bracelets and 2 WSOP Main Event Championship titles under his belt. Michael Mizrachi, who has cashed in several events this summer, including winning the $50k Players Championship, also has a decent stack.

Interestingly, the chip leader Mamouni (311,000) has less than $500k in live cashes in his career and has no prior cashes at the World Series of Poker either. 6-time bracelet winner Chris Ferguson is also in the mix (134,900) while former Main Event Champion Ryan Riess has a decent stack of 64,000.

Just like yesterday saw 2017 WSOP Main Event Champion Scott Blumstein busting his stack early, another famous Main Event Champion busted today, in Jamie Gold. Gold holds the record for the biggest prize ever in the Main Event, when he won $12 million for winning at WSOP 2006, but he hasn’t managed even $600k in live poker earnings apart from that major win. A one-time wonder, maybe?
