Yes, this could be the answer to all your prayers in 2020. The government of Britain just announced the approval of the first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for use against COVID-19.
The Britain government has said, “The Government has today accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use. The vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week.”
Pfizer has said that they would immediately begin shipping supplies to the UK. Doses everywhere are scarce, and initial supplies will be regularized until more vaccines are produced in the coming months. The UK has ordered vaccines for 20 million people but the government has still asked frontline workers, and has people to still take much care.
India is still hosting clinical trials for all the major vaccine contenders. Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, was still conducting trials for the vaccine developed by Oxford University. Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories had said last week that it will distribute the Russian vaccine in India after conducting final-stage human trials and approval. Bharat Biotech International Ltd. are at the second-phase human trial stage and Zydus Cadila is in the process to receive approvals for conducting third-phase clinical trials.
Gutshot reached out to IPC co-founder Peter Abraham, and here’s what he said, “Well this news of a vaccine will bring some much needed cheers in the current times. From the standpoint of our live event brand India Poker Championship, as before, we continue to wait and watch. It does bring us some optimism that with this possible introduction of a working vaccine, the spread of the virus will be contained and in due course eliminated,”
While also reiterating the need for people to continue following safety guidelines like wearing masks and practicing social distancing, he further added, “Only once we reach such a stage where the relevant Government authorities give a green light about hosting large numbers at an event, will we start making plans for the next live edition of the Championship. In the meantime, we keep our fingers crossed that this vaccine is effective and India also gets its own vaccine for its people soon.”
Now may be the time to go back into live tournaments slowly and steadily. There will no more be plexiglass dividers, sanitizer booths, masks, social distancing and everything else that we are now following during the pandemic. Folks, we can now look forward to live tournaments, chilling casinos, interactive physical Bootcamps and much more! Corona se math Darona!
