Hossein Ensan takes lead to Day 9 of WSOP Main Event

When play wrapped up at the end of Day 7 of the prestigious 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, Germany’s Hossein Ensan seemed to have an unassailable chip lead among the final 9 players. He had over 30% of chips in play and honestly, no one was near his towering chip stacks.

Just a few minutes back, Day 8 came to an end after 4 eliminations took place during the day and tomorrow, the final 5 will battle it out to a winner. Ensan has managed to keep his chip lead, finishing the day with 207 million chips but he doesn’t have a huge lead this time, closely followed by Garry Gates, who chipped up by over 70% today to finish with a stack of 171 million chips.

Milos Skrbic, Timothy Su, Nick Marchington and Zhen Cai were the four players eliminated today and when play resumes tomorrow, we have players of four different nationalities still in contention of becoming the next world poker champion. None have won a gold bracelet in the past and while one player is assured that bracelet, each of them will walk away much richer than before.

The pay-outs continue tomorrow on Day 9 of the Main Event at a massive amount of $2.2 million (~INR 15 Crore) for 5th place. However, each of them will have their eyes on the life-changing $10 million set aside for the champion at this, the 50th anniversary of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Day 8 chip counts:

  1. Hossein Ensan – 207,700,000
  2. Garry Gates – 171,700,000
  3. Kevin Maahs – 66,500,000
  4. Alex Livingston – 45,800,000
  5. Dario Sammartino – 23,100,000

Italy’s Dario Sammartino is probably the most experienced poker player on this Final Table with $8+ million in live cashes, but he is currently the shortest stacked and way below the average of 102 million chips. Who do you think will go on to win this biggest prestige in the sport? Stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for all updates!
